Michael Stipe Of R.E.M. Comes Out Of The Closet

ms_blog.jpgMichael Stipe, for those of you who don’t know who he is, shame on you, –is the frontman for R.E.M. and a very talented and wise man at that. Although I’ve always had my suspicions about his orientation, and honestly, -who hasn’t? –this still comes as somewhat of a shock, because of all the years Michael has been discreet about his sexuality. From Us Magazine:

“R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe has come out of the closet.

“It was super complicated for me in the ’80s,” he tells Spin. “I was totally open with the band and my family and my friends and certainly the people I was sleeping with. I thought it was pretty obvious.”

The singer, who had always deflected questions about his sexual orientation, says he “didn’t always see” how coming out could help others.

“But I see now, of course, that’s the case,” he says. “I’d just never felt strongly enough about a particular relationship to say, ‘Yeah, he’s my boyfriend, that is what it is.’

“Now I recognize that to have public figures be very open about their sexuality helps some kid somewhere out there.”

The band recently played the South by Southwest Music festival.

They release their next album, Accelerate, on April 1.”

I appreciate very much that Michael Stipe is revealing his orientation towards same sex relationships, openly for the right reasons. As you’ll recall I’m sure, I hate J.K. Rowling for her PR-based and sudden announcement of the sexual orientation of a fictional character. As if that in any way, shape, or form will help her in the future. She did -not- comment on her reasoning, so I can only assume that it was highly flawed, and if there’s anyone out there who can prove me wrong, please do. Otherwise, Michael Stipe is still a brilliant man, for opening up to the world, and giving people everywhere hope for a non-biased future for gays and lesbians.

Alicia Keys Is Not A Lesbian… She Wants You To Know

spx-015165.jpgApparently there were all these rumors floating around that Alicia Keys was a lesbian, so she came out and publicly shot down the gossip, telling all that she’s plenty straight. Usually when the lesbian rumors start it’s because they’re being spread by pussified men, or jealous women, both intimidated by stronger women. From the Sun:

“R&B superstar Alicia Keys can understand why she was labeled a lesbian at the beginning of her career - because she was ‘rough around the edges’. The singer’s sexuality was the subject of much speculation after the release of her 2001 debut album Songs In A Minor.

Alicia is adamant she isn’t gay but realizes her appearance and attitude may have led people to draw their own conclusions. She said: “I was definitely rough around the edges. I look back at certain interviews and I’m like, ‘Damn! Did I have to look that hard? Did I have to do my hair that way? I could see why people couldn’t see the diamond in the rough. I didn’t take it to heart. I know what I am. I know it’s not true.””

I don’t think Alicia should have to bend down to that level, to say she “understands” why people would call her a lesbian. Keys is a beautiful woman, with talent, and femininity. The people that keep circulating the lesbian rumor, are just ugly people, and Alicia Keys doesn’t need to deign to the ugly people.

The Brady Bunch: Backstage Bisexual Fun!

Who could possibly forget The Brady Bunch? Most of us, in the later generation, were forced to watch it, often, when there was nothing else on TV; and then they made the movies, which made the show even more interesting. One of the most popular feuds on the show was Marcia and Jan’s sisterly struggles. “Marcia, Marcia, Marcia!” Well, the actress who played the oldest sister, Maureen McCormick, now 51 years old, has a biography coming out next year, that bares all the dirt on the angelic kids from the popular sitcom. Amongst the dirt on the Brady actors, is that Maureen and Eve Plumb, the actress who played Jan Brady, were lovers behind the scenes. From Contact Music:

As well as talking candidly about her well-documented eating disorder and drug problems in the book, TV’s Marcia Brady will come clean about a romance she had with co-star Eve Plumb, who played her sister Jan on the hit show. A source tells America’s National Enquirer, “The most explosive comments will be how the then-blonde, blue-eyed cutie developed a crush on Eve Plumb, which led to some sexual play. “This book will certainly come as a shocker. While Maureen is not a lesbian, she reveals there were some sexual hijinks going on behind the scenes. “It’s bizarre because she played such a virginal character on the show.””

I agree with Cele|bitchy; this kind of open nature on sexuality does show how frequent, and natural it is. Whether it is for experimentation, or the development of orientation, most people do have either lesbian or homosexual thoughts, or experiences. It raises awareness, which prevents, and stomps out ignorance and bashers.

Colin Farrel And Ewan McGregor: Lovers!

pa65810_175×175.jpgThe newest, cutest couple in Hollywood is Colin Farrel and Ewan McGregor. At least that’s what they’re saying, according to Metro:

“”Me and Colin Farrell lovers? Yes. You heard it here first. Friends, lovers, all of those things,” a deadpan Ewan told us on the red carpet premiere of their film, Cassandra’s Dream, in Toronto.

The story was then ‘confirmed’ by Colin, who walked up behind him, grinning: “We’re lovers, but only physically. No movies, no dinners, or long meaningful conversations caring about how the other person is doing in their lives.”

The 31-year-old Irishman added: “We just like to make love every now and then. Once a year is going to be the deal, like Woody Allen makes his films.

“We’re going to make love once a year. He does look well, doesn’t he? Very dapper. It’s the accent as well that gets me.”

Ewan added that they planned to hang out together tonight.

“I’m going to watch a film with people who like to watch films. Then Colin and I are going to go crazy!” he quipped.”

Well… okay. So they aren’t really a couple, they’re more like occasional f**k buddies. Ewan and Colin never struck me as the kind of actors who just like to run off and have a wild gay fling once in a while, but on the other hand, they’re practical and cool about it. I love the attitude they have between them; a very fun, casual way of saying “let’s go home and make whoopee!” But only once a year? Sure, guys…
