It surprises me that a show that is all about the typical vision of beauty and young girls hasn’t come under too much fire in the past; but now all of that is changing. On the March 26 episode of America’s Next Top Model, apparently a model was doing a photo shoot and was instructed to lie naked in a bed such as Marilyn Monroe once had. TV Guide says,

“Council president Tim Winter nevertheless called the shoot “irresponsible” and said it “crossed the legal threshold for broadcast indecency.”

He added, “This is not simply a matter of artistic freedom, as some might claim. Rather, this is about a television network intentionally pushing the envelope to establish a new acceptable nudity standard for the broadcast medium.”

Winter maintained that the segment was uncalled for and irrelevant to the Tyra Banks-hosted modelling show. “The entire photo shoot scene, which lasted for more than a minute, is wholly gratuitous and undoubtedly intended to titillate,” he said.

“Parents and families are fed up with such blatant and continued disregard for decency standards.”

This is an interesting issue. Are the teen girls that watch the show really so innocent that they don’t realize these girls are doing a photo shoot? This is a depiction of the modeling world and this, and much worse, is what happens in the modeling world. Is it not up to the parents to discuss this with their children, ask them what they think about it, and start an open discussion? Is it really Tyra Banks’ job to do this? Now, I’m generally not a supporter of Ms. Banks but I feel in this case her show may be being unfairly judged.

The model on the show was covered in sheets and cameras were placed in just the right spot to block the viewer from seeing anything. And Top Model has always done one photo shoot where the girls are naked. Nothing has ever been seen and again, it’s just to get the point across to the girls that they will have to do this type of thing to succeed in the modelling world. Whether that world is right or wrong is up for the girl to decide but I think this is another case of people having too much time on their hands.

The freckles. Ugh. I don’t know what it is about the freckles. It’s like, I’m caught halfway in-between thinking, “Imperfections are beautiful,” and “Ew, it looks like a rash.” I’d love to have some opinions from the audience on this one. Lindsay Lohan naked. Are her boobs real? Do you really think she looks anything like Marilyn Monroe? From In Touch:

“In a nod to one of her idols, Lindsay Lohan recreated the iconic “Last Sitting” photo shoot of Marilyn Monroe with legendary photographer Bert Stern-nudity, scarves and all. “I didn’t have to put much thought into it,” Lindsay told New York Magazine. “I mean, Bert Stern? Doing a Marilyn shoot? When is that ever going to come up? It’s really an honor.” And while Lindsay has even bought an apartment that Marilyn once lived in, don’t expect her to follow in Marilyn’s tragic footsteps. “You know, it’s also tragic what just recently happened to someone else,” Lindsay said about her late friend, Heath Ledger. ”

As far as lifestyle, Lindsay Lohan definitely has Marilyn Monroe down; however, the two were not equal in size. Lindsay’s much thinner. Marilyn on the other hand, was practically a Botticelli angel; all curves. Try eating some, Lindsay. People have so many cures for freckles out there, it’s crazy. I’ve read about lemon juice compresses, mud, etc., everything to get them off. My favorite story, I read when I was a little girl, hoping it would work. I used to have just a few, right across my nose and cheeks. I read in the story about a girl’s grandmother, who told her, running through a wheat field at dawn would do it. And getting entirely coated in dew would rinse away every freckle. Naturally, it was a story with a “Love thyself” moral. I’m still torn on Lindsay’s freckles though.
