On Saturday, reps for Uma Thurman confirmed that she was engaged to her boyfriend of one year, Arpad Busson. Uma is mostly known for her role as Mia Wallace in Pulp Fiction and she has also starred in Kill Bill and My Super Ex-Girlfriend. Arki, as he’s known to friends, is a financial expert. From People,
“I can confirm she is engaged,” Stephen Huvane said on Friday. New York’s Daily News was first to report the engagement.
On Saturday, the couple themselves made the announcement, on page 75 of London’s The Times.
Under the heading “Mr A. Busson and Miss U. Thurman,” it reads, “The engagement is announced between Arpad, son of Mr Pascal Busson, of Paris, and Mrs Florence Harcourt-Smith, of South of France, and Uma, daughter of Mr and Mrs Robert A. F. Thurman of New York.”
In return for saying yes, the actress received some serious sparkle: an 8-plus carat center stone surrounded by 20 smaller stones. “It’s the most beautiful piece I’ve ever seen,” says a close source of the diamond ring. “Arki did a wonderful job.”
Well and with all that money you would hope so. I guess the next order of business is a prenup. Not only do these two both have scads of money but they have also both proven that they may not be experts in the relationship department. Uma is hoping that the third time’s the charm as she has been married to Gary Oldman, which ended in 1992 and she then married Ethan Hawke. Four years and two children later, that marriage also ended in heartache. Oldman has never been married but did have two children with his longtime girlfriend Elle Macpherson.
Back when Ethan Hawke was still married to Uma Thurman, amazing, sexy woman that she is, he made a special bond with their nanny. Yeah. Their nanny. The help. Good god. Anyway, after Ethan and Uma Thurman headed out to Splitsville, he took the nanny with him. Damn, harsh. Now, Ethan Hawke’s former hired help, now girlfriend, is pregnant with his baby. From E! News:
“Ethan Hawke has reason to believe his pregnant girlfriend Ryan Shawhughes will be a good mother—he’s seen her child-care skills in action.
The 37-year-old actor met Shawhughes, 28, when she worked as a nanny to his children during his marriage to Uma Thurman.
After Hawke and Thurman split, he took up with Shawhughes—and now the couple has a baby of their own on the way, his rep Mara Buxbaum confirms to E! News.
“They are thrilled,” Buxbaum said.
There was no word on a due date.
Hawke and Thurman parted ways in 2003 after five years of marriage. Their divorce was finalized in 2005.
The former couple has two children together—nine-year-old daughter Maya Ray and six-year-old son Levon Roan.
Though Hawke was allegedly carrying on an affair with Canadian model Jennifer Perzow during the final months of his marriage, he has repeatedly attributed his breakup with Thurman to other factors.
“The story of us breaking up over infidelity has been an annoying one,” he told Details magazine in a 2004 interview. “If our problems were that simple, we’d still be together. Uma and I were having troubles long before the press got ahold of us.”
The ex-twosome have since ironed out their difficulties on behalf of their kids, with both sides describing their present-day relationship as amicable.”
Uma Thurman obviously has more courtesy and mercy than many of us. If any of my husbands ever ran off with the nanny… well, I once read about this trick with poison ivy, underwear, and a plastic zip bag that I have to say, I’d definitely employ in their case.
