March 15th, 2008 — Eliot Spitzer, Snoop Dogg
Snoop Dogg was on the daytime talk-show today to not only promote his new television show Fatherhood but also to promote his new album Ego Trippin. He tried to come off as a stand-up kinda guy but I’m not so sure it worked. From Celebitchy,
“Barbara Walters mentioned that Snoop is no longer doing only gangster rap, and that he’s matured. She said “no more gangs, no more pot,” and he said “I didn’t say that!” She asked what vices he’s given up since becoming a responsible dad. Snoop said he doesn’t drink, but that he has a medical condition he didn’t specify and that he needs medical marijuana. Joy mentioned glaucoma and Snoop scrunched up his eyes and said “I can’t see that good!”
Being a past pimp, he also spoke out on Eliot Spitzer when asked by the ladies and said that he didn’t have any advice for him at this point. Apparently, it had gone too far and had Spitzer wanted advice before this time, he might have had some but now there was no advice to be given.
He may have won over the ladies on the show but I’m not so sure about the rest of America. Perhaps the regularity of hearing about celebrities mixed up in drugs has made me immune to it but hearing about parents taking the stuff still has an effect on me. I probably wouldn’t say much if he had left it at the fact that he needed it for medicinal purposes. I would have been able to look past the fact that anyone with a little bit of cash can get a doctor to write you a note. But here he is on national television laughing about the fact that he has a condition, which he didn’t specify.
I’m also bothered not by the fact that he used to be a pimp but that he would still give advice to one. Again, it’s different for me when this kind of talk comes from a parent. If his little girl grows up to be a prostitute, will he be horrified by it or just simply be an understangind dad ready to offer advice? The whole thing sickens me.
March 15th, 2008 — Ashley Alexandra Dupre, Eliot Spitzer, Larry Flynt
And why shouldn’t she? Ashley Alexandra Dupre is making more money than most women, and she just pulled down $200,000 on a few music downloads. Not too bad at all. Besides, being a prostitute is nothing to be ashamed of in the music business. Haven’t you seen the Lady Marmalade video with Lil’ Kim in it? ‘Nuff said. From Us Magazine:
“Eliot Spitzer’s prostitute Ashley Alexandra Dupre is cashing in on the sex scandal.
The budding singer, 22, may have already banked an estimated $200,000 from online music downloads, the New York Post reports.
Dupre - who charged the disgraced New York Governor more than $4,000-a-month for her services - made two of her tunes, “What We Want” and “Move Ya Body,” available for purchase as 99-cent downloads on music site Amie Street shortly after the scandal broke. (Musicians can earn a 70 percent cut on download fees.)
“What We Want,” a pulsating dance tune, was also added to New York’s Z100 playlist on Thursday (she first streamed it on her MySpace page, which has gone on to receive more than 7 million hits).
But after listener response was low, it was yanked out of rotation, though it was still heard on the station as of late Friday.
Should her music career not take off, Dupre will have no problem finding gigs to fall back on, says Hustler Publisher Larry Flynt. (Hustler offered her $1 million to pose Friday.)
“She is no doubt going to do a book. There will probably be a movie,” he tells the Associated Press. “I think she is going to have so many offers coming in that it will probably be wishful thinking just to get in the door.”"
I am so agreeing with Flynt here. Dupre might be just a flash in the pan, but maybe her days of lying back and thinking of England are over. On the other hand, if this new celebrity biz doesn’t do it for her, Dupre will always have something to fall back on her knees to.
March 13th, 2008 — Eliot Spitzer
Eliot Spitzer, the former governor of New York, made a brief statement announcing his resignation from office on Wednesday morning. From his office in Manhattan, People reports him as saying,
“I am deeply sorry I did not live up to what was expected of me,” said Spitzer, referring to his “private failings” for which, he also said, “I’ve begun to atone. I have acted in a way that violates my obligations to my family and violates my – or any – sense of right and wrong.” He added, “I apologize to the public, whom I promised better.”
Spitzer’s resignation follows the findings of him being involved in a prostitution ring. The fact alone that he was involved in this isn’t what bothers me. I mean, people will do what they do. But the fact that he has a wife and three daughters makes it that much more despicable. Did it never once cross his mind how he would feel if his own girls were involved in something like this? And he gave the press conference with his wife by his side. I don’t know about that either. I wish the wives of politicians would stop feeling that it was necessary to stand by your man when he has been involved in something so disgusting.
Spitzer was governor of The Big Apple for only sixteen months before this took place. His running mate, Lt. Gov. David A. Paterson will take over the position.
