I can’t even believe I’m writing about this because I just hate giving Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt any more publicity than what they throw on themselves. But this whole story is just so stupid, and so crazy that I just feel as though I must say something. As the whole world knows by now, Heidi and Spencer “split” last week, due to Spencer’s controlling ways and the fact that he was taking Heidi away from her family, who Spencer just called the cops against a few weeks ago. But almost immediately after the split between the couple, people started wondering if it was a publicity stunt. And it seems, that’s exactly what it was and the couple are “laughing” over the split.
According to US, the entire split was trumped up in a desperate attempt to get ratings for The Hills and to get buzz going about a possible new show that Heidi’s going to be involved in. And it was Spencer’s idea to spread the word of a “split.” So that people would want to watch them on TV again and so that they could once again, be the talk of the town. Do they really not see what’s wrong with this? From US,
“Heidi and Spencer Pratt fabricated their split in a desperate attempt to stay famous as The Hills wraps up, the new issue of Us Weekly reports.
While Heidi’s rep confirms the breakup to Us (“Heidi… hopes people respect her privacy”), sources say any estrangement is about as real as Heidi’s size-F breasts.
Adds another insider of the couple, who wed in April 2009, “Heidi and Spencer are laughing over it and having a blast.”
Even Heidi’s big sis, Holly, 26, twittered the couple are “liars.”
Pal Jen Bunney — who left the second season of The Hills after feuding with Lauren Conrad over Brody Jenner — says she and Heidi, 23, are shopping a single-girls reality show.
“They were waiting for The Hills to be over to split. Now she doesn’t have to pretend,” Bunney tells Us of the duo, who originally rejected a fake divorce plot-line on The Hills.
The two are in publicity-seeking panic mode. “This breakup is the latest part of Spencer’s master plan,” another insider says.
So could they get back together?
“There are no plans for divorce,” says a source close to the couple, and Heidi’s rep confirms no papers have been filed.
And Bunney hints a reunion could happen on their show.
“That will be a big aspect of our show: How Spencer handles it,” she tells Us.”
Seriously, do Heidi and Spencer really not see what’s wrong with lying about your marriage ending so that you can increase your own popularity? I know that we as a people have been taking marriage pretty lightly over the last few decades. And that’s especially true when you’re talking about a marriage in Hollywood. But it’s a sad state of affairs when marriage is being taken so lightly that divorce can be laughed about and lied about, all in an effort to boost one’s own ego. If Heidi and Spencer didn’t make me ill before, they’ve certainly done it now. But they’ve pretty much always made me sick. It’s just unbelievable to me that people could be so shallow, so self-centered, and so delusional, all wrapped up in one no-longer-pretty package. Seriously, is anyone watching this show?
