I really hate Lady Gaga and I’m really glad that I don’t get the opportunity to write about her very often. Seeing as how this site focuses mainly on the relationships of celebrities, it seems that I also won’t have to write about her any time soon because she ‘doesn’t need a man’ and ‘probably won’t ever settle down.’ Lady Gaga has exploded onto the music scene just recently. Although her career began sometime around 2005, it wasn’t until last year that she started commanding attention with songs like Poker Face, not to mention her outlandish fashion choices and statements like she’s ‘going to change what sexy means.’
All of these things have formed a sour opinion of Lady Gaga in my mind but now she’s also said some pretty stupid things that just prove to me that my initial opinion of her was right. From Contact Music,
“‘Poker Face’ Lady Gaga refuses to fall in love and settle down because no man could ever compare to her music.
Lady Gaga will never get married.
The ‘Poker Face’ singer – who is dating a businessman called Speedy – won’t ever settle down with a man because her work will always take priority over her love life.
She said: “You know, I probably won’t ever settle down. Part of me would love all that, but the bigger part of me knows it’s never going to happen. I don’t think I’m cut out for love and marriage. Music and my art are the big things in my life. I know whatever happens they won’t cheat on me and they’ll never let me down. Men nearly always do.”
However, the 23-year-old singer – who is known for her outrageous flesh-flashing outfits and party lifestyle – insists she is not upset at the thought of spending her life alone.
She explained: “I don’t need a man. I might sometimes want a man, but I don’t need one. I earn my money, I create my art, I know where I am going.
“I think my parents thought I’d be married by now, but I rebelled against that whole life. I’m unconventional, I’m a rebel.”
It’s too bad that she didn’t think these statements all the way through because the remarks could actually be quite empowering to women. But, I don’t think that not being married by the time you’re 23 makes you unconventional. It’s not the 1950s anymore and girls aren’t getting married fresh out of high school. Many women are starting their own careers now without worrying about things like marriage. They’re not relying on men or being married to make them whole. I don’t think that being one of those women makes you a rebel or unconventional.
I also think that making such statements when you’re only 23 may not be so wise. I know what it’s like to be 23 and think that you know everything. Then you grow up just a little bit more and realize that you don’t know all that you thought you did. I think it would be more empowering to women if Lady Gaga becomes a huge success – like mega-huge, bigger than she is now – and still says that she doesn’t need a man. At that time, it will be even more meaningful if she really has just focused on her music and isn’t always in the tabloids for sleeping with every guy she sees. I’m not saying she is now but after saying something like this, she really needs to watch what she does. I just think that now she’s placed unnecessary restrictions on herself and has given bloggers and reporters an excuse to jump on her should she ever feel like jumping on someone else.
