Chris Sort of Apologizes While Protecting Himself

Chris Brown has finally come out with an official statement and as you would expect, it’s an apology. Well sort of. He does say that he’s sorry ‘about what transpired’ and that he hopes ‘to emerge a better person.’ So does that make for an apology? I guess in this case it will have to. Notice that he doesn’t actually mention Rihanna’s name, which would have been nice since none of us were actually attacked. Notice that he also says that he wishes he could say more but he can’t because it might get him into more trouble. Sorry, a sincere apology to me would be actually not worrying about yourself and just, well – apologizing! From US,

“Chris Brown, who allegedly attacked girlfriend Rihanna in Los Angeles a week ago, has released a statement, apologizing for the incident.

“Words cannot begin to express how sorry and saddened I am over what transpired,” the five-sentence statement, released Sunday, begins.

“I am seeking the counseling of my pastor, my mother and other loved ones and I am committed, with God’s help, to emerging a better person.

“Much of what has been speculated or reported on blogs and/or reported in the media is wrong.

“While I would like to be able to talk about this more, until the legal issues are resolved, this is all I can say except that I have not written any messages or made any posts to Facebook, on blogs or any place else. Those posts or writings under my name are frauds,” the statement concludes.”

Okay, I’m sorry Chris, that I reported that you wrote nasty things on your Facebook page and you didn’t. I guess since you beat and bit a girl senseless, you might be able to get over it though. Rihanna’s father also issued a statement earlier this week to say that Rihanna was healing with friends and family at home and that she’s doing okay. From People,

“I know my daughter,” said Fenty, 55. As for Brown, he said, “You think you know somebody, but you really don’t.”

Brown, 19, allegedly attacked Rihanna, 20, in Los Angeles last Sunday. He was arrested and may face charges from the district attorney.

Describing Rihanna’s current condition after seeing her on Thursday, Fenty said, “There is some bruising. She will be all right. I think so.”

He adds, “At some point, she will speak out. I hope she will stand up for women all over the world.”

Fenty, a salesman and freelance clothing designer, said Rihanna is spending time with girlfriends while she heals. While Fenty said he wouldn’t tell his daughter what to do, he did say, “If it were me, I’d move on.”

It’s good that Rihanna seems to be doing okay, under the circumstances. And while I have no doubt that Rihanna will use this, as well as her celebrity platform, to stand up for women but I really hope there’s not a lot of pressure on her to do that. I can just see now all of the women’s groups that will be contacting her to speak out for their charity or cause and while I have no doubt these are all well-intentioned people, I don’t think that she needs to deal with all of that right now. It sounds as though she’s doing exactly what she needs to right now – hangin with the girls and chillin.
