Jett Won’t Fly Again

It’s so sad that John Travolta and Kelly Preston are meeting 2009 with tragedy as they mourn the passing of their son, Jett Travolta, who died on Friday after seemingly having a seizure while the family was on vacation in the Bahamas. The family has not yet released an official statement and although there are some different theories on the cause of death, it does seem to be a seizure that was the root of his death. US has details,

“John Travolta and wife Kelly Preston are in “unimaginable and unquantifiable” pain over the Friday death of 16-year-old son Jett, a family friend says.

Travolta’s lawyer and close friend, Michael McDermott, and family attorney, Michael Ossi, explain to TMZ.com that it appears Jett’s fatal injury was caused when he hit his head on the bathtub, toilet seat or both.

It’s still unclear if Jett had a seizure that caused him to slip, or if a seizure occurred after he fell. “Not a tremendous amount” of blood was found on the scene, they add.

Police have said that Jett was last seen going into the bathroom Jan. 1, but his body wasn’t found until 10 a.m. on Jan. 2.

But McDermott and Ossi — who are currently in the Bahamas with the Travolta family — say rumors that Jett went undiscovered for hours are completely false. They say it appears Jett was going back and forth to his room, and the injury occurred in a “small window of time” before he was found.
The lawyers also report that a nanny was by Jett’s side around the clock, there was a baby monitor near Jett and the bathroom door chimed every time it was opened.

Although an autopsy won’t be performed until Monday, the lawyers say it appears the cause of death was the striking of Jett’s head.

It’s been reported that Jett had autism, which Travolta has denied — instead saying Jett was inflicted with Kawasaki Syndrome (the six-year-old son of Backstreet Boy Brian Littrell has the same diagnosis), which can lead to heart disease.

Travolta called Jett “my baby” in an interview with the Australian media several years ago.

“He’s my first, and he’s my heart. And he’s a very special boy,” Travolta said. “He’s Daddy’s boy. And…we spend a lot of time together even though I’m pretty busy.”

It’s sad that barely even 24 hours has passed since this young boy’s tragic death and already, theories are being talked about and there’s a certain air of controversy surrounding the story. Whether or not Jett had autism or another disease, or whenever the body was found, for now I hope that we can all take just a moment to feel for this family and try to give them the privacy to mourn that they will undoubtedly need.
