This is why I watch interviews with celebrities that I’m not so fond of. Tom Cruise appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show yesterday. Oprah interviewed him in his home in Telluride, Colorado which Oprah said was,
“just so normal!”
Well, not exactly. I don’t believe a typical home includes a kitchen the size of a penthouse and leather-bound scripts just lying around. Normal, no. Well deserved? Probably.
Oprah launched right in, starting with Tom’s crazy couch jump three years ago. I’ve never understood the huge debacle over this myself but Tom says,
“I just felt that way, and I feel that way about her (Katie.). I can’t even articulate it, to be honest,” he adds. “That feeling, that connection. Just who she is and what she means to me.”
Oprah then moved in to the more serious issues, which have been burning for three years. His interview with Matt Lauer, his stance on Brooke Shields taking antidepressants for postpartum, and whether or not the rumors about his marriage ending are true. On conventional medicine and therapy Tom said,
“I was feeling pressed in the interview with Matt Lauer,” Cruise says. “For me, my issue was really about child drugging. It’s not like it is today, like people are really kind of openly talking about this. Of course I could have handled it better. Even the day of that interview, I knew I could have handled it better. It’s really the parent’s decision and parent’s should make that decision.”
When asked about the rumors surrounding his marriage, Tom said,
“It’s ridiculous. I mean, it’s laughable to me.”
Tom seemed to be at peace and want to clear a few things up. Whether it was his PR rep talking or whether Tom has really seen that he hasn’t always presented himself properly, I don’t know. But I don’t hate him like I once did and it will be good to watch Part 2 of the interview on Monday.
