Spitzer Sex Scandal

spitzer.jpgEliot Spitzer, the former governor of New York, made a brief statement announcing his resignation from office on Wednesday morning. From his office in Manhattan, People reports him as saying,

“I am deeply sorry I did not live up to what was expected of me,” said Spitzer, referring to his “private failings” for which, he also said, “I’ve begun to atone. I have acted in a way that violates my obligations to my family and violates my – or any – sense of right and wrong.” He added, “I apologize to the public, whom I promised better.”

Spitzer’s resignation follows the findings of him being involved in a prostitution ring. The fact alone that he was involved in this isn’t what bothers me. I mean, people will do what they do. But the fact that he has a wife and three daughters makes it that much more despicable. Did it never once cross his mind how he would feel if his own girls were involved in something like this? And he gave the press conference with his wife by his side. I don’t know about that either. I wish the wives of politicians would stop feeling that it was necessary to stand by your man when he has been involved in something so disgusting.

Spitzer was governor of The Big Apple for only sixteen months before this took place. His running mate, Lt. Gov. David A. Paterson will take over the position.
