Charlize Theron And Stuart Townsend: Married?

chadfasrlize1.jpgWell, even though they’re both wearing rings, and calling each other husband and wife, Charlize Theron and Stuart Townsend never actually had either a civil or religious ceremony. From People:

“‘I’m married,’ Townsend told People this week. ‘I didn’t do a church wedding or anything, but we’re married. We’re husband and wife. We love each other and we want to spend our lives together,’ the 34-year-old said about his nearly seven-year relationship with Theron, 32, who he calls ‘the greatest woman I’ve ever met.’

“‘We didn’t have a ceremony,’ he added. ‘I don’t need a certificate or the state or the church to say otherwise. So no there’s no big official story on a wedding, but we are married. … I consider her my wife and she considers me her husband.’”

However, I’m more inclined to agree with the source, in Celebitchy, who stated that it was “sorta weird that Townsend said “I’m married” instead of “We’re married”,” but on the other hand, it’s actually more or less a legal duck in my mind. For instance; you can’t get a divorce, if you were never married. Hypothetically speaking, without a marriage agreement, were Townsend ever to do Theron dirty, she’d have no chance of a beneficiary settlement, unless the couple is together long enough to be recognized as married by common law, or even in a state that accepts that as an alternative to a civil ceremony. But, still, on the other hand, it might have just felt right for them, and they have been together nearly a decade, which might be enough to be recognized as common law marriage.
